Artist Bio
Since she can recall, soprano Clare Lillig has loved the arts. Starting as a dancer and instrumentalist in her youth, she has always loved to perform. Once in high school, she turned to musical theater and singing, along with dance as her passion, which led her to where she is today.
Lillig’s upcoming roles include chorus and dancer roles with Annapolis Opera and Maryland Opera, as well as the role of Gretel in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, as an emerging artist at the Narnia festival in Narni, Italy in Summer 2023.
This past year she has performed as the solo dancer and chorus in Maryland Opera’s Die Fledermaus and Annapolis Opera’s Lost in the Stars. Additionally, she is the staff soprano in the Cathedral of St Matthew Schola Cantorum as well as in the St Mary Mother of God professional polyphonic quartet, both located in Washington DC.
Some of Clare's favorite past operatic roles include Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro,and Monica in The Medium. She has also performed in newer operas including the role of Ruth Baldwin in Musto’s Later the Same Evening, as well as premiering the role of Stacy in Sunder by Alicia Heymer and Nailah Nombeko.
In addition to music, Clare is a skilled dancer. She has studied at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and the Joffrey Ballet, and has performed throughout the midwestern United States as well as in London. Her choreography has been staged and performed at the collegiate level, and she has taught dance for ages 2-18.
Clare is a graduate of the prestigious Maryland Opera Studio, where she worked with coaches such as Justina Lee, Deb Birenboim, and Craig Kier, studied voice with sopranos Jennifer Casey-Cabot and Carmen Balthrop, and worked with directors Amanda Consul, David Lefkowich, and Corinne Hayes. She is also a graduate from Anderson University where she attained dual degrees in Vocal Performance and Dance.
